Box from the Netherlands!

Yay!

Although I am guilty of having little faith that I would ever see this box, my second package from the Netherlands arrived a few days ago! *happy dance* Yes, it took about 5-6 weeks to get to me in California! *shocked face*

Regardless, it was a LOVELY package, each item individually wrapped up so I had many little surprises inside :) I got two green skeins of alpaca yarn (sooooo very scrumptiously soft) and the pattern for Knitty's Sheldon to make with them...yay! I love turtles :) Then, I got some yummy lemon hard candies which are long gone, lol. My co-workers helped me eat them. Finally, I got a book I've been wanting for my son...it's a cookbook on creative recipes and ideas for feeding kids healthy foods. I saw it at Jamba Juice months ago and there are several recipes in there I can't wait to try now that it's mine!

Thank you so much, my awesome pal! Sorry for lack of pictures, but I accidentally left everything in my desk at work for the weekend, so it's not handy :(

Thanks again!

Box in UK!

Hi
This arrived yesterday from Twistedknitster. Some lovely supersoft Misti Alpaca in a lovely chocolate colour, 2 balls of Diaketo variegated in pretty jewel tones which is Japanese yarn I've not seen before. Also, as you see Socks, Socks, Socks by Elaine Rowley, an interesting addition to my library.
Thank you Jerry for being a great pal!
Happy Christmas one and all!

Winding down this round...

There are still two packages floating around in the mail system - but this round of PRGE is winding down. Thank you all for playing!!

I think we are all in the midst of holiday craziness! So, I just quickly want to say that I will be opening up PRGE sign ups for the next round on February 1st. This exchange has been running continuously for over a year and I think we could all use the break :) There will be a little tweeking of the exchange and the contests for the next round - and as always feedback and ideas are appreciated!

I will keep the blog open while the exchange is not running, so anyone who would like to post anything prge (the two unarrived boxes or an object made with something a pal gave) or that you think is of interest is welcome!

I hope all of you and your families have a safe and joyous holiday season!!

Pretty Tweed from England! (or Another Turkey Late for Thanksgiving)

Superbig thanks to Alison. She was an excellent exchange partner, spoiling me with a sweater's worth of Rowan when i asked about english tweed.

Colorway: Holly. So pretty!

She sent the package to my travelling address in the States. While the package arrived early, I got to it a bit late. She also sent me patterns, some pretty brown tweed, stitch markers, music, dvd, cocoa, and lavender soap for the full english effect. (I'm sorta glad she didn't pack the rain!).

I wish also to tender apologies for the late post, both to the Lovely Alison, and to all participants. I was running around Michigan like a madwoman visiting the fam/friends/everyone and doing the big annual holidays. But I'm back in the Fatherland now, and chilled out enough to catch up. :D

Happy Holidays to everyone. I'm going to be on ravelry now, figuring out what to do with the Rowanspun. :)

Package Arrived!!

I got my 2nd package yesterday from Angela. It rocks! Thanks so much!
You can see more pictures on my blog, but the package includes 2 skully dishcloths (black & pink!!), Cougar Mountain Choc Chip Cookies (which are off limits right now due to the copious amounts of peppermint bark I've eaten the last 2 days), a beautiful postcard from Mt Hood, the final installation of Cast on Bet's Off, a great Emily the Strange pocket notebook (great for travel bag!), a big lace & skull notebook, a folder that Angela printed out the Eunny Jang lace tutorial with two different lace patterns, a skein of lace weight dyed by Angela, and a bare skein to try dying myself! Phew, I ran out of breath listing it all!! I'm ever so excited because I really have been wanting to try lace, now I have no excuse!! Thank you, again, ever so much!

ps - if you pop over to my blog, be sure to enter my 100th post contest, where the price is, ironically, a skein of cobweb Orenburg lace :)

pps - i know we all can't wait until sunne hosts this swap again, but if you're bored in January, come sign up for the swap i'm going to host :) sorry, for the first round it will be us/canada only :(

Thank you Yvonne

Yvonne sent me a lovely package filled with lots of lovely yarns, yummys, goodies for the kids, keyring, skull stitch counter...

Here is a photo of what Yvonne sent me, I am sure she probably packaged it well but customs thought they'd have a look. The only broke one item but it can be easily fixed.

Big thank you from myself and my boys.

Package 2 from Down Under...

From the land down under came the second package. First there is the really large bag with the flag of Australia on it, some soft sparkle yarn that will be great in a scarf mixed with some other yarn that I have. There is a package of key chains with what looks like miniature copies of Australian money plus a package with 3 flowery candles. And lastly, the small ball with the pirate that glows. Nathan will love that since he has taken a liking to Pirates lately. Thank you Leeanne!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving!!
I am so happy to have had everyone who has been a punk pal in this exchange, in my blog life. I have learned so much - sometimes even more then I have wanted to, from all of you... And I think that all of you are amazing to sign up to give to someone you don't know and then spoil to the nines!! I am thankful to get to know all of you...
Happy Thanksgiving!!

Best Pal

So most of the second packages have been received. If you got your package but didn't post it here, please do so - or at least link us to where you did post your gushing Thank You!

I do have a few prizes donated for Best Pal, so I would like to open up nominations. I will keep them open till November 28th. There will be one Best Pal prize. Since it has been a little quiet around here - I will post the prize later this week. To nominate your pal, please e-mail me no more then 20 words on why your pal was the best. While creativity is appreciated and I will post all the submissions in one post, the best pal will be chosen by random drawing. Best pal gifties will go out on November 30th.

You all have been a great group! I will be running another PRGE in the spring - more about that later....

Thanks for Playing!!

Final Package from Lindsay of Storm Moon Knits!

punk rock gift exchange

I received my final package from Lindsay of Storm Moon Knits on Thursday. As you can see, it is a fabulous package. Included is Storm Moon Knits Celestial Bulky yarn, Burly Spun yarn, a pumpkin pie candle, stitch markers, lovely knitting needles, a cute cute cute picture frame (with a picture of bud in last year's halloween outfit), and much needed sour patch watermelons!

The colors of the yarn are amazing! Seriously beautiful and wonderfully me! I've never knit with yarns like these before and I really wish I could dive right into them (unfortunately I have knits with deadlines to finish first!). I was really lucky in this exchange to have such a wonderful pal.

Thanks again Lindsay!

edited to add: I forgot to include in the picture the book Knitted Toys by Zoe Mellor that was also in the package. I love this book! There are so so so many cute pictures of things!

Chocolate Covered Cherry Box!!

I want to send a huge Thank You to Knit Kat for my amazing second box!! I got a great messenger bag that says "Little Miss Sunshine", the Stitch and Bitch daily calendar (yippee!!), two balls of SWS from Patons, a beautiful C*Eye*Ber Fiber sock yarn, and a package of Chocolate covered cherry Hershey's kisses (mr.sunnshine kinda devoured most of them before I could take the photo. It makes me laugh and makes him feel involved in the exchange - so we all win :) Oh, and I got the beautiful cherry card, too!! It really was a stressful week, and this package really made it better. It was a wonderful and thoughtful gift - Thank Kat!!

Awesome package from Stella!

I totally love everything in my package No. 2!

It was started off with two extra-large balls of Sugar N Creme - one in variegated blue, and one in natural. Then, a mixed bag of Lindor truffles (!), a new car freshener, Japanese Cherry Blossom skin cream, a black-and-white checkered headband, dark chocolate-dipped Altoids, skull patterned toe separators (for my next home pedi!), a teeny mirror to stick on my cell phone (or some other adorable location), a pig keychain that lights up AND oinks, a personalized mix CD by Stella herself, and two blue-purple balls of Elisabeth Lavold baby llama! Whew! I had no idea so much could fit inside one box!

This was such a welcome package, since I am currently out of my home element, and visiting with the many families and families-in-law. We also bought a new car this past week, so to say that the past couple of weeks have been hectic would be an understatement.

I am very grateful to Stella for giving me a reason to s-l-o-w-d-o-w-n and take the time to look forward to unwrapping each individual little bundle. I will post a pic as soon as I can get the images off my phone!!

It's snowing here right now!! Ack!!

2nd package came. Thank You, Thank You!

Like I said in my last post, I was very bad abut quickly displaying my swap packages. Time to give huge thanks to my PRGE (Punk Rock Gift Exchange) swap partner. This was my first PRGE and Sunneshine the moderator was my spoiler. Thank you seems so inadequate. You matched me up with a wonderful lady in the UK who as turned out to be a wonderful friend. This was supposed to be a half secret half open swap and I think I love the format because you have more contact with your upstream and downstream partners.

Once again you were really generous and you sent such special things. To really think about the giftee and think about what would make them happy is not an easy task. I really appreciate the effort to locate the hand dyed fibers and local flavor in your packages. You have raised the bar for me to try to do better next time.

This was locally dyed and hand spun alpaca hank made just for me. mmmmm Purple

Hand picked Chocolates that were from a local candy store.

Beautiful Lotus yarns hand dyed sock yarn in a muted grey purple.

Some themed stitch markers for the swap and even some pink Kitten Markers for Mrs. Twisted. She thanks you very much!
This was the whole booty haul. Some mind stimulating games and even a CD from a local music group. The Chocolates were absent because they were open and I forgot to include them but you seen them up close and personal.
I can't wait for the next PRGE.

Life is Good

Package 2

My PRGE pal is so great. Jackie (knitdaisyknit) really knows how to put a package together. The yarn she sent is perfect for me and she even crocheted a cool necklace with beads (which I wore to work today because it is so beautiful). Just look at the spoils.

Mini-Surprise!

I won't post a picture, well, because you all know what a CD looks like! I got a little mini-mail surprise from Angela yesterday. Part 2 of 3 of 'Cast on, Bet's off' :) Something tells me my 2nd package may contain Part 3 :) I haven't begun listening to the book yet, but with all my Christmas knitting coming up I definitely will be!

Thanks Angela!

Woo Hoo!!!

First, my apologies to Knitting Knut for being late in posting this. I received my second package on Saturday night - and I had had such a long, tiring day - this was a huge, welcome ray of sunshine!

(I hope I am not breaking PRGE etiquette by posting several pictures but my box was so beautiful...I thought you would all love to see it.)

She packed so much goodness in the box...you can see the cool purple/black yarn and in the back is a kit for lace up gauntlet gloves from Sugar Apple Creations. WICKED!!! See:

The color didn't come out too well in the photo but the yarn is like a cranberry-esque color and the ribbon is navy blue. She also included purple dpns, skull stitch markers and....

...a cool little notebook and coin purse! (That coin purse makes me GRIN every time I see it!)

What else was in this box? An army (really, an ARMY) of skeletons, a skull goblet, skull lollipops and a bag of Halloween candy. Finally, a black silk rose with purple glitter accents.

What can I say but that I am completely, absolutely spoiled rotten. Cheryl, you ROCK. No, you more than rock....you PUNK ROCK girl!!! I am trotting off to my blog to post more on there. In the meantime....THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making my first PRGE such a fun experience. Big hugs!!

wow, so many goodies

I just got my 2nd package from Janinga and it was full of goodies for me and my son. Have a look at my blog to read more about it, here I just show you a photo of what we got (wasn't easy to fit everything on one pic)

Thanks so much Janinga, you were a great pal

On the 1st Tuesday in November is the feature Horse race of the year the one to supposedly stop a nation. Melbourne Cup day is about hats and fashion. This year I fully crafted my hat in crochet and added a hair clip for my flower. The cotton was from my 1st package from Christine and the band is a crochet ball of el cheapo garbage. I didnt get a prize for the hat but did get a winner in the sweep and gained $55.

YAHOOOOO!

I got a wonderful package from Miss Shadkitty today. Bear with my as my camera was stolen at a Halloween party. I will have my friend Erin take pictures so I can post more details on my blog. The package may have been here for a few days, but I opened it today. I got many wonderful things! Two skeins of cascade 220, one in black and one in green. I think I'll be making a skull bag or hat with it! The green is sooo GREEN! I love it! I also got a sweet leather bound mini book. I love this and am still trying to figure out a special use for it. I also received stitch markers and a row counter, both from Sunne's store and both with skulls! Funny thing...I nearly bought these for myself! Shad also sent me candy, which was enjoyed by all at my dad's house where I opened the box and the cutest little sign that reads "Wicked." Oh how my pal knows me.

I am editing this to add that I also got Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Without Tears! I love this book. I flipped through it during dinner and it has wonderful information! Thanks so much ShadKitty!!

Happiness in a Box

I got my second PRGE package yesterday! First, a bit of background on how that day went. Heather had been up and down all night, we didn't get to sleep until 3am, and she didn't wake up until nearly 11 btw. I spent the morning paying bills and balancing the checkbook. Always fun. Not to mention I was missing Mr. Shad particularly badly. *sigh* Anyways, I was in a mood. Enter Super Pal! AKA Dawn. She is really a great pal, and this box couldn't have been more perfect unless she had found a way to put my hubby in there! It made me so happy that I teared up, actually. Anyone who knows me will know just how fitting these gifts were for me. Oh, and Dawn, it's okay you couldn't find the Turquoise Jeans. I love the Ingrid's Blues, the Claudia Handpainted is so soft and squooshy! Had to resist temptation to cast on! Must finish current projects! Here, have lots of delicious pictures. I didn't want to make a mosiac because then you couldn't see anything.

PRGE package 2 002 PRGE package 2 004 PRGE package 2 005 PRGE package 2 006

What you are seeing here is: a skein of Universal Deluxe Chunky Tweed in Ocean, some yummy-licious sounding hot cocoa mix (Green & Black's Maya Gold), a mug/cup in which to put that cocoa, a PotC loofah/squirter, a journal (ps, have I ever described my affinity for journals on here? I'll go find some of the ones I have...just you wait), a cheshire cat keychain (CUTE!), Claudia Handpainted in Ingrid's Blues, there was a cute little bag thing that mug was cozied into it is adorable, some iron-on patches, and temporary tattoos. I assume those last are for the crazies. If not, it's too late, I already said they could have them. :) Seriously Dawn, you rock. Thank you SOOOOOOO much!

I think I got my 2nd box?

I'm pretty sure I got my second box the other day...but there was no note! But since it wasn't from my sp11 person it must be from here...unless folks have started sending me random boxes of yarny stuff [which I would not object to!]

There were:
FOUR skeins of a thick dark jade wool
a pretty pink roving
the yarn harlot guide to knittingland [or something like that...im half way through and like it a lot but i have a pug on my lap so I can't go check the title]
a lil green sheepie

but there was no note and I didn't recognize the sending name so I dunno! I posted in my blog and I still dunno...but thanks whomever sent it!

Package #2

My second package came a few days ago from my awesome pal Megan! That was way earlier than I was expecting :)

There's more info over on my blog. Thanks Megan!

Parcel Arrived Thank you Christine

I got home after another long day at work to find my next parcel and after a rather busy start to the day sorting out yesterdays mail troubles of incorrect things on my order and a missing pattern to a kit I ordered at least today I only had to open things and see what I had. I have 2 skeins of either lace or sock weight yarn (I am not sure till I look a bit closer and swatch), some pirate tissues, a pirate patch and a Iron transfer that says rock n roll. I even have dark Lindt balls and a Pez as I have never had one before I took a while as to how to use it and even now im still a little puzzled and will have to look in the shops if there is more for me to try.

Despite Boss being a little tired He joins me in saying thankyou to Christine for the parcels and as we know Sunne is the best ear scratch giver he knows and she loves seeing him and we really have to thank Sunne for yet another great round of PRGE.

Sorry blogger wont post my pics I'll add them later. Hooray I got them there on Friday.

Melinda is still the best

Holy cow, another huge package from my pal. It is so cool from floating skull candles to a handmade wash cloth. As you can see it is kind of overwhelming, but that Interlacements is just so great!! EE!! I needed a photo frame for my work desk, and now I can stamp everything with bunnies (so punk rock in my book!). And check out all the yarn, so much stuff, I feel like a princess.

THANK YOU!!!

This was a great swap :)

PS: My box is going out soon, it is packed and ready!

my must knit list

I have it in my head to knit a funnel neck top like the American Apparel funnel knit shift dress...only not a dress, knit, and with sleeves.

I design my own patterns [and sort of on the fly] and I tried to do it with this sweater but with no luck...mostly due to a lack of yarn but also a misscalculation as to how this neck was made. Now, after driving all the way to the store [over an hour away] I have disected this dress and I am totally going to try again for my next sweater project :)

[the current flub up was frogged back to the bodice and is now a pretty scoopneck in the making so no real harm done :)]

I wish..

I'm a VERY slow knitter. Everything just seems to take me forever to do. And, in recently starting the Secret of the Stole, I've been bitten by the lace bug. I'm already a big fan of socks, they do take me a little longer than the average bear, but it's fairly instant gratification. I've even done lace socks (see Hedera), and been very pleased. But these babies? Ooh yeah. If only I could increase my stitching speed, they might not take three years to finish. And of course, I'd have to make it out of cashmere. Do they make fingering/lace weight cashmere? I'm sure they do. See, I've never researched cashmere, that's how far out of my budget it is. Now I have to go buy some just on principle. Anyway, cashmere stockings. Super soft, nice and warm, and lacy. What's not to love?

And I'd add in a lace shawl for every outfit. Because, if I had infinite knitting skills, it wouldn't take me a year and a half to knit a lace shawl. It'd take me a week. So I would make several. :)

Someday Knit

What would I knit if I could? Without limitation?

Definitely the One Piece Wonder from the Knitting Lingerie Style book, it's on the cover. And I will. Some day.

And this. Even if I have to reverse engineer it. Or...unvent. (seriously. hit the link, it's worth it)

My wishlist for when Maverick puts me on my allowance

I have a couple of things I want to make when I can get time to do as I please. I call this when Maverick ( my mate) gets financial enough for me to stop work and have an allowance and get to knit to my hearts content.

I want to make Prince Williams Christening set and the shawl to go with it The Heirloom Shawl. One day I will get them done and try to win a prize in a show with them.

I'd love to knit...

... a birch shawl. But I hate the thought to cast on lots of stitches, so I'd prefer the pattern variation started at the bottom. I will give you a link to the pattern later, I'm not at home right now.
As for now, I don't have enough time to knit something big in a lace pattern, so it seems I have to wait a while longer before I own one of those...

NEW CONTEST

These are two of the many things I have on my list, for someday....they are Rowan designs by Kaffe Fassett...

Sooo.... the winner of the mini-contest is Metal and Knit! Tianne e-mail me with your address and I will get your prize out between trips on Friday morning!

Thanks to everyone who entered. I think its so interesting the variation in knitting styles and things that we all do, with pretty much the same results!

Sooo, for this week's mini-contest, if you had all the time, patience, money and knitting skills necessary, what would you make? Please provide a photo or a link to the pattern and tell us what yarn and color you would use... I know there are several of these projects in my queue that take more time, concentration or money for amazing yarn then I can offer right now....

Happy Knitting!!

The New Home...

Here is my mommy's new blog - Girly With A Twist. See you there!

The Sock Tool

A friend taught me this but one of my favorite tools is a sock. Not a sock I knit, just a normal, ordinary, comes from the store sock. I put my ball of yarn in the sock while knitting and it prevents my cats from gaining access to it and attempting to rip it to shreds. (They have a particular love of Noro Big Kureyon...) It also makes good secure storage for the knitting project if it is small. (Although, I suppose it would look kind of silly carrying a bulging sock full of yarn around town...)

Ummmm. I could add a picture here but y'all know what a sock looks like. Heh!

My favorite Tool Box

My best item I use and carry nearly everywhere I legally can is my Tool Box as I call it. It is just a tool pouch from the Simply Knitting magazine and it has enough stuff to help me out of most muddles.

As you can see it holds plenty of essential tools and bits n bobs from sock needles to hand cream, buttons and needles even bandaids just in case of an emergency to help hold somehting together. It has helped fox shoes, items at work even on my car the odd thing was used.
I cant live without my tool box.

Favorite Tool

My favorite tool would be POST IT NOTES. I love my stack of post its. I use them on every pattern I work on. I make notes about mods I make, I make hash marks for number of rows or rounds complete OR I write out the number of rows to complete and mark them off as I finish them. I even use them to mark my place on charts. The sticky back comes in very handy there. Post It Notes. . . my favorite knitting tool.

Favorite Tool

This is rough. My big projects bag is full of cow-patterend items. A DPN case, a needle roll, a notions bag, even stitch markers! But, my favorite is my cow tape measure. Originally, my SP (from SP 8 I believe) bought it for me. It tickled me soooo much!! Even after much abuse from children, and being chewed on by my cat, I still used it. Finally, the tail fell off, I taped it back on. Then, my oldest pulled too hard...and it refused to retract the tape measure. It was time to give it up.

I was so sad that I went online and hunted down another tape measure. Exactly like the first one. My notions bag is usually in my purse (my on the go knitting bag), and I love having that little cow buddy with me to measure whatever I need!

(I'll add pics later, apparently I don't have any good ones right now)

Contest - my favorite tool

I finally managed to take a photo of my favorite tool I use with my crafts... Besides my knitting needles and crochet hooks, it is definately my old, worn wool winder. It makes great center-pull yarn cakes out of my skeins or left-over yarn and helps when I frogged something to create a ball again of the yarn.
And center pull balls are absolutely great, no more yarn that is rolling around in the room, you can knit everywhere without problems... Knitting got a lot easier for me when I got this great tool.

Goodies from Down Under

Today was a good mail day. I received these goodies all the way from Australia. The chocolates will be gone by the end of tomorrow. I love the yarn. It's really soft and its a great color. Thank you Leanne!!! The package was well worth the wait. My oldest (5 year old Nathan) liked the wraping paper.

Got my package!!!

Yahoo! My pal is awesome :)

I got my first package yesterday, all the way from the NETHERLANDS! That just totally rocked my socks off, lol.

What did I get? Well, first of all, everything was wrapped up so pretty and it was so fun guessing what things were by squishing them :P

Then, upon tearing madly into all the packages, this is what I got!

The book, "Knitting Lingere Style," which I have been wanting for awhile now. Totally awesome patterns inside *happy dance* A skein of Opal sock yarn, which is sooo soft :) Some mystery candies that I believe will be strawberry because they have strawberries on the label, lol and some orange and green stitch markers. Yay!

Thank you so much, my pal. You're awesome and I love my goodies :)
